Different types of scrubs for skin

A scrub is a spa treatment. It exfoliates the skin on your body and makes the skin smooth, soft and moisturized. Scrub can also be defines as a rough product which when rubbed vigorously, and massaged across and into your skin, and then rinsed away, reveals a moisturised layer of fresh, clean and smooth skin.
Scrub usually includes an oily base, which moisturises and soothes your skin.

A scrub can be really revitalizing as well. It also improves the circulation of blood and lymph and hence helps in fighting the cellulite and improves your skin tone.
Scrubs contain grains of exfoliants or cleansing agents. The different types of scrubs are:-

Sugar and Salt scrubs.

  • Since this type of scrub has an oily base, it coats the skin with an emollient similar to baby oil.
  • This is not the scrub for you if you like to leave the shower as clean as possible because this scrub leaves a thin film on the body.
  • Salt is usually more abrasive than sugar and hence, the exfoliation process acts more intensely.

Nutshells and Pumice.

  • It has coarse grains and is hence great for getting rid of the dead skin in tougher areas like calluses on feet.
  • Since these scrubs are usually very rough, they are most suitable for very dry and tough skin. It is not suitable for very sensitive skin as it might cause more damage.

Salicylic Acid.

  • Salicylic Acid is a chemical exfoliator, It can be used on all parts of the body. It is especially good at fighting acne.
  • Not much guarantee is there for improvement on feet or other rough areas as this scrub is usually milder.
  • It can also remove the bumps formed after shaving. Also, can be used before sunless tanner or an even and streak glow.

Salt scrubs improve circulation, help balance skin’s natural moisture levels, release toxins and impurities from the body, and help reduce inflammation.
Sugar is an alpha-hydroxy, which promotes healthy and glowing skin. It acts a natural moisturizer, as well as humectants. It means it not only adds moisture but also helps draw and seal in the most natural form of all moisturizers i.e. water.

Sugar is a gentle and effective scrub. Hence, it is safe enough to use on children.

Also, there are different types of scrubs for different type of skin.

Sensitive skin:- You should choose something that is not too rough and where the skin does not react strongly to products as it may cause damage. Scrubs with natural ingredients like honey or fruit extracts will work for sensitive skin. Scrubs with harsh chemicals should definitely be skipped.

Dry skin:- A scrub with lots of moisturizers is the best for dry skin. Scrub with almond extracts or oatmeal can slough off the dead skin cells. Products that strip the skin of natural oils should not be used. You should follow the scrub with a moisturizing lotion.

Normal Skin:- Any type of scrub is safe to use on normal skin. Salt scrubs are rough, effective, and hence great for the skin.

Oily skin:- Scrub which contains powerful oil blockers like salicylic acid are great for oily skin because they open your pores and help to control oil. Be careful not to scrub too hard as harsh scrubs can cause damage to the skin.

Facial scrubs:- A body scrub should not be used on face unless it is very mild or specifically for both body and facial uses. Micro-dermabrasion cleansing pads are great on the face as it offers the perfect amount of exfoliation. A rougher scrub should not be used daily.
