DIM Motor Company is an automobile manufacturer from Greece. The company was created by Georgios Dimitriadis. He earlier had a company named Bioplastic S.A. which produced the Attica automobile which he transformed into DIM Motor Company.
The luck of Georgios Dimitriadis was hardly in his favor. He designed a light four wheel automobile named Dimitriadis 505 in the year 1958 with and intention of mass production. He had to abandon the plans of the production of the car due to tax imposed on automobiles at that time. Then his focus shifted on three – wheelers which were called motorcycles in Greece then. In the year 1963, he manufactured three – wheeler passenger car with the German company Fuldamobil. The car was named Attica 200 as it had the engine of the displacement 200 cc. Later the car was modified and adapted Greece style of design leaving the typical German design. The same engine of the displacement of 200 cc was used in different versions of the car. The model with new design was very popular in Greece. Some car enthusiasts still retain that model. The production of Attica 200 went on till 1972. In 1968, the similar design was used to create a three – wheeler truck. It was called Attica Delta. In Delta, the rear half of 200 became the aft or the front half.
In the year 1965, Attica led by Georgios Dimitriadis tried to enter the four – wheeler market. He introduced the Carmel 12. This car was made and sold under the license from Israel. The car wasn’t totally indigenous. Most of its parts were imported from other European countries, mainly from the United Kingdom.
In the year 1977, Georgios Dimitriadis transformed Bioplastic S.A. making Attica into DIM Motor Company. Under DIM Motor Company, Georgios Dimitriadis constantly tried to enter the mainstream market and tried to make modern cars by his own. He made a car which had a 600 cc engine and other mechanical parts from the car Fiat 126 by the European auto giant Fiat. A 650 cc engine was used in the new and improved model of the car. The car was named DIM 652. It was showcased in the 1977 Geneva motor show. There it received maximum publicity and it was made famous in the prominent auto magazines and other media around the world.
Georgios Dimitriadis was at the peak of his career at this time and the car was planned for the mass production. A plant and workshop was built in Acharnes for the car’s production and the plans were made for the other versions of the cars as well. But even this time Georgios Dimitriadis had to give in to the Greek bureaucrats. Only 10 cars were manufactured as the production stopped due to the fear of the car’s poor prospects in the Greek market the laws that made Georgios Dimitriadis spend a lot of money on taxes. The whole project was abandoned in the year 1982.
