Dry Facial Skin

Dry Facial SkinA beaming face is the silent dream we all cherish, on the other hand a dry facial skin is something we all dread. Sadly, this situation becomes a reality with each of us sometime or the other. Dry skin is an irritant anywhere on the body, but when this dry skin is on the face, it ruins the overall appearance of the individual. Often, the itching which comes as a result of dry facial skin, results in redness of the skin on various parts of the face. The worst part is that since the face is the part most exposed in our day to day life, the skin on the face dries out faster than the rest of the body, which means that the dry facial skin is in need of special care. Wrinkles on the face will also be formed earlier than they should as a result of a regularly dry facial skin.

A primary cause of dry facial skin is that the supply of a hormone called sebum, secreted from the sebaceous gland, is inadequate. This hormone is responsible for maintaining the moisture content of the skin, thus making it responsible for keeping the skin fresh and hydrated. A sudden change in temperature or environment (with respect to humidity) may also cause dry facial skin. However, dry skin on the face may also be caused due to a certain disease or illness. A few such diseases which may lead to dry facial skin are:

1)      Eczema

2)      Psoriasis

3)      Seborrhoea

4)      Dermatitis

People’s skin also has a tendency to get drier as they progress in age. Hence, as we grow older, we must realise that our facial skin needs more and more care and protection. Moisturisers and lotions have to be used regularly to combat dry skin, and to prevent the skin on the face from ageing fast. The dry facial skin problem may also arise as a result of staying in cold conditions, spending long hours in an air conditioned room, sudden environmental changes or hormonal changes inside the body. All the above conditions tend to be unavoidable and hence we are left with no solution but to take extra care of our skin to keep it moisturised and healthy.

Dry facial skin is a sure indicator that the body is getting dehydrated and loosing excessive moisture through the pores in the skin. Thus, to remedy the problem of dry facial skin, we need to take steps like applying moisturisers to make sure that our skin is capable of retaining moisture. Another solution, is replacing the water which is lost by the skin by drinking more water. There are also other substances like Aloe Vera, papaya, apricot, cucumber and honey which can be applied on the skin to enable it to retain moisture.

A few good face packs can be instrumental in delaying and maybe even avoiding the problem of dry facial skin. A face pack may be made using a hydrating agent or can be made my mixing two or more hydrating agents. Experts believe that the best face pack which can be made easily is one which contains grated cucumber, a few drops of honey, a couple of drops of almond oil and rose water. These ingredients must be mixed well and then cooled in a refrigerator for about ten minutes, care needs to be taken that the face pack does not become too cold. Doing this three times a week for about twenty minutes will ensure that your dry facial skin can be avoided or healed.
