FAW-Volkswagen

FAW-Volkswagen LogoFAW-Volkswagen – “Das Auto”. Sound familiar? May be because the Volkswagen brand is an enduring one, a brand that is synonymous with perfection, persistence and superior design. The Volkswagen brand is known for producing automobiles that stand the test of time. Classy and stylish vehicles are the Volkswagen trademark. The company was founded on May 28th, 1937 and was renamed Volkswagenwerk GmbH on September 16th, 1938. The name is quite a mouthful, but the brand is worth the trouble.

The Volkswagen brand is best known for producing the Beetle. Volkswagen started producing this car; it’s most famous and most popular till date, in 1945 under the management of Major Ivan Hirst. Then, in 1950, Volkswagen produced the Volkswagen bus, thus expanding its production range and creating another classic. The Bus, still known to many as the VW Bully, soon created a huge demand because of its multifunctional capabilities. 1956 saw the establishment of a separate manufacturing base in Hanover, at the same time setting down the roots of the VW Commercial Vehicles brand. Workers and dealers brought in 1955 by celebrating the production of the one millionth Beetle in Wolfsburg.

On February 17th, 1972 Volkswagen shattered the world car production record. With 15,007,034 units assembled, the Beetle broke the record set by the Ford Motor Company’s Model T between 1908 and 1927. The Passat, another Volkswagen innovation with front-wheel drive, a water-cooled four-cylinder engine and a range of engines up to 110 bhp, was the first of the new line of VW vehicles to go into production in 1973.

The second generation Golf, another VW trademark, began production in June 1983. The car was designed for a largely mechanized assembly process, and in the specially erected final assembly hall, designated Hall 54, robots were used for the first time in manufacturing vehicles.

Volkswagen made history once again in July 1999 with the production launch of the Lupo 3L TDI because this was the first car to offer a fuel consumption of just 3 litres per 100 kilometres. Volkswagen broke into an entirely new market segment with the production of the Touareg, a luxury-class vehicle in August 2002.

Volkswagen also cares about its employees and has proved this time and again by having flexible working hours, flat hierarchies and the deployment of more process expertise by the workforce.

Volkswagen is very environmentally conscious as compared to other automobile manufacturing companies and has evolved a set of rules and policies which make its manufacturing environmentally safe. These policies are followed very strictly and show that the company is dedicated to sustainable development and protecting the natural environment. Volkswagen is committed to complying with all environmental laws and regulations; preventing pollution by researching and developing new and improved methods of production; fostering the management of resources and energy; proper disposal of wastes; providing clear environmental responsibilities for all its departments; heightened environmental awareness for its employees; and an increased liaison with the government and, contractors and others.

Volkswagen is now coming out with another edition of the much-loved Beetle. The new model is more dynamic and better than ever. The model is to be released in 2009. Advertising and marketing is already creating a buzz and the model seems like it’s going to be a big hit even before it’s released.

FAW Volkswagen is also known for managing the Audi brand. The Volkswagen brand has had a long history and it doesn’t look like it’s going away anytime soon.
