Home Remedies for Dry Skin
Though dry skin is a major irritant in many peoples day to day life, it can be tackled very easily by a few commonly used home remedies.
1) Among these, early in the mornings, a simple face pack can be applied. To make the pack we need:
- One egg yolk
- One tea spoon of orange juice
- One tea spoon of olive oil
- A few drops of rose water
- A few drops of lime juice.
- We then mix the above ingredients well and apply it over our skin.
2) We could also make another face pack which would need:
- One entire egg
- One tea spoon of honey
- Half a tea spoon of olive oil
- A few drops of rose water
These ingredients would have to be mixed and then applied on the face as a mask.
3) Another way to ensure that your skin stays moisturised is to water mist it, which can be done in the following way.
- Clean and tone your skin after which you must apply a splash of water.
- Pat the face almost dry.
- Smooth a moisturizer right from the collar up to the hairline.
- Leave it for five minutes so that it can be immediately absorbed.
- Covering the face and throat with a warm washcloth will help by making the penetration quicker.
- After all this is done, blot off any excess moisturizer which remains with a clean tissue.
4) A good way to keep skin moisturised would be to have a milk bath at least once in a week. Directions on how a milk bath must be taken are given below.
- Warm the water for your bath and put 250 gram of powdered milk in it.
- Half a tablespoon of almond oil and a few drops of any perfume you choose.
- Then just lie in it and relax.
5) For chapped lips, a little bit of raw beetroot when rubbed on the lips will prove very helpful. Before sleeping, rose water or lime water can be applied to the lips.
A few herbs when rubbed on the skin, remove the dryness of the skin by moisturizing it. These herbs are:
- Comfrey and calendula: both of these two herbs have properties by which they soften the skin. They can be used in floral water and applied on the skin to heal dry skin. Comfrey cam also be used to remove redness and to soothe irritation of the skin.
- Aloe Vera: it is a very soothing substance which also helps in moisturising the skin. It also helps to remove the dry skin cells on the affected part. But, it is advisable to rub it only on the affected parts.
- Five drops of lavender oil or oat extract can be mixed in bathing water to get rid of dry skin.
- Camomile and fennel tea can also help in retaining the moisture of the skin. Adding one spoon of the herb in a cup of boiling water will also suffice.
- Oil from the bark of tea plants are also known to stimulate skin cells to liberate healthy oils for the skin. One drop of tea bark oil can be used along with the moisturiser.
- An herbal sauna can be made by mixing camomile, fennel, lavender and peppermint. Boil approximately three table spoons of the herbs in a litre of water and boil the mixture. Sit a little away from the pot and steam your face.
Following the few steps given above can ensure a low cost remedy for combating dry skin.
