Hulu was launched jointly by NBC Universal, Fox Entertainment Group and ABC Inc. it was funded by Providence Equity Partners who owns a 10% stake in the company.
Hulu is a legal website launched to steam videos to users. At hulu.com you can find entire episodes of hit TV shows, movies and various clips. Hulu has more than 100 content providers including FOX, NBC Universal, MGM, Warner Bros. and lots more.
Hulu has made sure that there will be no problems of piracy. Most of the videos available on Hulu are in the Flash format so make sure that you have installed Adobe Flash Player in your computer.
Hulu shows many older shows from the 1960’s and the 1970’s. Hulu’s licensing deals have allowed it to get full seasons of those shows for distribution. This made the site very popular among the older generation and also for those who love retro. However Hulu also has an excellent collection of current shows running on television. For current shows, so as not to interfere with DVD releases, Hulu shows only the current five episodes of the show.
Advertising wise Hulu just showcases fifteen minute spot ads during the episodes or movies. These ads are usually for the same product. Hulu also does ads for non-profit organizations. Hulu is not one of the top three video streaming video sites and Disney has also taken a 20% stake in the venture.
In an unpopular move recently Hulu shut off Boxee’s access to its content saying that their content providers were having a problem with it. Boxee is a service which enables you to watch video content on your television screen.
Hulu posts videos on its own site and also allows other sites to stream videos from it. E.g. Facebook, MySpace, MSN, etc. Hulu has also released a beta version of itself which can be placed on the desktop so that people can use Hulu without opening their Internet Explorers.

- Some shows have entire seasons whereas other just have a few episodes available to view.
