There were Beatles previously, it’s Jackson’s 5 now. The greatest disappointment for a music band’s fans is the breakup of the band, mostly due to the personal ego problems amongst the band members.
The only beacon of hope for the fans is that the members would rejoin. God extinguished the very flame of this beacon when it called for Michael Jackson to the Heavens and shattered the hearts of the millions of Jackson 5 fans all across the world. Jackson 5 was a family band comprising of Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Michael Jackson who incidentally was 5 when he gave his first performance. For almost a decade they played in the region of Indiana before being seen by Motown records towards the late nineteen sixties and were an instant hit on record as they had been on stage, live.
Motown which had been once a great record was thrusted into another wave of chart-busting track production! Lead by Michael on the lead mic, Jackson 5 were felt to be a family that had a unique freshness in their music and riveting energy in their performance.
“The love you save” and “I’ll be there” rocked the charts all over and more performances came their way and the audience was left simply spell-bounded by the soul-full music and the precise choreography in-lieu off the daily problems of war, nuclear bombs, economics and finance that the United States of America faced in nineteen sixties and the seventies. Coldly put, the Jackson’s 5 cashed upon the most basic desire of every living organism, human or animal, Happiness. Their music brought happiness to the people, and the charismatic and cute presence of Michael made it all the more good.
Born in a family of nine, the Jacksons 5 had the following positions in the hit band. Michael with his mature high pitch was the lead, being supported by the husky and soulful voice of Marlon and Jacky. Tito took lead to play the lead guitar and Jermaine supported him on a bass guitar and also as the second lead.
These Jacksons quite literally were occasionally transformed into Jackson six when their drummer Johnny Jackson who is not from the same family but from the same city of Gary, Indiana joined them with a set of Drums. Piano hymns were produced by Ronnie Rancifer, who again was from Gary, Indiana.
By 1972, the two lead singers, Jermaine and quite obviously Michael Jackson were given opportunities to record their solo tracks and both had some major hits and also started performing individually by this time quite often. Time passed and the population of the band increased as rapidly as the rapidly increasing national population. Sisters of the five Jacksons, Janet (yeah the same super bowl one!) and La Toya also joined the troupe.
By the 13th (Lucky or unlucky? You decide!) March of the year 1976, the Jacksons 5 had moved from their parent label Motown to Epic Records and also edited their name to have just jacksons (perhaps to rectify the technical glitch due to the ever hard working papa Joe Jackson). Well this wasn’t all of the changes that the band had to face.
The second lead singer and also the base guitarist, brother Jermaine Jackson had to make an exit to develop his solo career. But the ever-hardworking papa Joe Jackson had a son ready to replace Jermaine.
Randy Jackson, the youngest of the lot, took up the vacancy created by elder brother Jermaine. Well now, what band is a band, that is not met with the ever growing feelings of indvidualism and hadn’t had to face problems? What matters the most is the soul of the band that has to be retained and the Jacksons 5 did create and retain it wonderfully well!
