Moisturising your Dry Skin

Moisturising your Dry SkinSkin can be classified into three basic types, namely that of normal skin, oily skin and dry skin. Out of these, dry skin needs a carefully selected moisturiser, although a variety of moisturisers are available in the market for each of the above stated skin types. For any skin, choosing the right moisturiser is essential, so as to maintain the desired health and glow of the skin.Dry skin has a low level of sebum, this sebum, is oil which is secreted by the pores of skin cells. This complex oil is produced in a gland under the skin by the name of sebaceous gland. Sebum is responsible for reducing the loss of water from the surface of the skin, thus maintaining the essential hydration in the skin. In dry skin, the lack of sebum results in rapid loss of water from the skin surface, thus giving it an undesired, parched look. Apart from looking dull and dehydrated, this dry skin also feels tight and stretched shortly after a wash.

Dry skin is in need of special care to transform it into a smooth and supple surface. We would need to start primarily by avoiding harsh soaps and over heated water. Also, very cold rooms must be avoided and ample water must be consumed to moisturise dry skin, a sudden change is climate or environment can also result in the skin becoming dry and dehydrated. It would be advisable to spray the face with glycerine and rinse it with clean water as much as possible.

Using baby oils to massage the face and body will also help a great deal in moisturising your dry skin; it would do the skin good to wash this baby oil off with a gentle face wash which has a neutral pH of seven. The most important commercial product required for maintaining the suppleness of skin however, would be a good quality moisturiser, as a moisturiser would help a great deal in moisture retention and imparting a soft and supple look to the parched, dry skin.

Simple face packs can also be prepared for moisturising your dry skin on the face and on the neck. One such face pack can be made by using the following ingredients listed below:

  1. An egg yolk
  2. One tea spoon of orange juice
  3. One tea spoon of almond oil
  4. Half a tea spoon of lime juice
  5. Half a table spoon of rose water.

The above ingredients must be mixed well and applied on the dry facial skin. It must be kept on for twenty minutes before washing with cold water.

There are also certain herbs which are well adept in moisturising your dry skin. Aloe Vera helps in moisturising your dry skin by smoothing it and healing the red surfaces which appear as a result of dry skin. The herb does this since Aloe Vera clears the dry skin cells lying on the surface of the skin, thus exposing the fresh, well hydrated and healthy skin underneath. Numerous moisturisers available in the market contain Aloe Vera; these are particularly preferred by skin experts.

An effective moisturiser is one which is capable of penetrating into the skin quickly. This would ensure that the skin is well hydrated. A good moisturiser can be made by using natural beauty oils like the tea-tree oil which is known to penetrate into the cellular level in the skin. Thus, you can ensure that your beauty is well maintained by moisturising your dry skin and making it soft and well hydrated.
