Seitan Teriyaki

In fact, it cooks up to take the texture of meat, which is why it is a great substitute for non-vegetarian dishes. Many vegetarian people and even restaurants use Seitan instead of meat in many non-vegetarian dishes to make them vegetarian.

Besides, it is a rich source of protein, which makes it very healthy for consumption. Just like non-vegetarian people fulfil their quota of protein from meat, vegetarian people do it with Seitan.

Seitan is prepared by hand, and makes use of whole wheat flour or wheat gluten. The starch is rinsed off the wheat, which leaves behind the wheat gluten. These days, it is easy to find prepared Seitan in packaged form in the market. You will usually find it in the refrigerated section of the store you are at.

One of the best dishes made of Seitan is the Seitan Teriyaki dish. This dish is very famous in the Japanese cuisine. However, the same dish is cooked in many countries of the world with a different name. The nature of the dish and its cooking process is so basic, that it can be made easily with a lot of customisation based on one’s individual taste. This is one of the reasons why it is an instant hit among many countries and cuisines.

To cook Seitan Teriyaki, you will at first need a marinating mixture, which can be made with the help of Szechuan sauce, tamari,  sirachi and arrowroot. If these are ingredients difficult for you to locate, then you can use any basic marinating mixture that you might use for other vegetables or meat. After around 30 minutes of marinating, Seitan is ready to be used in any dish.

You can heat the Seitan in peanut oil with some sesame. Then add the Teriyaki sauce along with soy sauce and other ingredients based on your taste and preference to cook the dish. A basic Seitan Teriyaki dish is easy enough to cook by mixing the Seitan with Teriyaki sauce. However, you can add vegetables such as mushrooms, beans, cauliflower, carrot, and even peas and corns make it more filling.

Seitan is also often used in pasta with white sauce as a substitute for meat. To add a spicy or tangy taste to it, you can add different kinds of sauces. Many times, vinegar and lemon are used in the marinating stage for Seitan in order to make the taste better.

Seitan is such a basic ingredient that it can be used with almost anything and everything to make a great outcome. You can completely experiment with this ingredient and still be assured of the dish being healthy enough for consumption because of the high protein value that Seitan has.

Seitan Teriyaki is best served with rice, for which you can make the consistency a bit more liquid and saucy. Or else, you can even use dry Seitan for appetizers. An innovative way to use Seitan is to mix it up with other ingredients and then chop it in small pieces to use with Mozzarella cheese over a pizza base. This would not only serve as a great pizza topping, but would make the pizza much healthier, with a great satiety value for consumption.

Packed and readymade Seitan have made it easier for anyone to cook any dish with Seitan as an ingredient. Plus the kind of variety you can have with this ingredient makes it ideal for use during party time, or when you have guests coming over and you need something quick, yet tasty to cook.
