The Vaio X is a latest, new ultraportable laptop released as a part of the Vaio series from Sony. It has been claimed as the world’s lightest and slimmest laptop. Weighing only 655 gms and only half an inch thin, the Sony Vaio X is probably an incredible leap from normal conventional laptops.
The Vaio series from Sony has always strived to bring elegance and style in its laptops and that is doubly reflected from the Sony Vaio X. Probably, no other laptop can be as portable. The Sony Vaio X boasts of 11.1 inch screen that is only 0.125 inch thick. The laptop uses the Intel Atom Z-Series processor which uses less power and creates less heat. This allowed Sony to make the laptop slimmer by omitting the fan.
The processor used by the laptop is a 2.0 ghz Intel Atom Z550. The Sony Vaio X comes with 2 GB of RAM which can be upgraded to 4 GB. The hard drive space is 128 GB but that depends on which model the user buys. The hard drive is not the regular spinning hard disk drive though but a Solid State Drive (SSD). As the SSD has no moving parts, it is less prone to common scratches that occur in conventional hard drives and provides faster access and just a quicker experience. The 11.1 inch display screen of the Sony Vaio X has a resolution of 1366 x 768. The display is also scratch-resistant which makes the laptop more durable. The Sony Vaio X also has a Intel GMA 500 graphics card with 762 MB of video memory. The operating system included is the recently launched Windows 7 Home Premium. The Vaio X also has WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G Connectivity. GPS facility is also included in the Sony Vaio X. The GPS tool helps you find directions while traveling and makes searching for restaurants or shops a breeze.
The Sony Vaio X has two interchangeable batteries: a standard battery and a longer, heavier battery-and-stand combo. The extended battery might make the laptop heavier but with the extended battery, the user gets an extended battery life of over 10 hours! The Vaio X also comes with two USB ports and a headphone jack. The right side contains a VGA port and an Ethernet port while the front has an SD card reader and a Sony Memory Stick slot. There is also a webcam for video chatting and a built-in microphone.
The keyboard of the Vaio X is also compact and easy to use. The keyboard measures 9.5 x 3.5 inches. The keys are well-spaced out which makes typing easier. The touchpad measuring 2.1 x 1.6 inches was a bit small but extremely responsive. The keys are firm to press and easy for fast typing. The touchpad may be a bit small for people with larger fingers but should not be very difficult to use
With the release of the Sony Vaio X, Sony has come up with a product that is truly a revelation. With its really slim looks and its light weight, the Sony Vaio X packs features with portability: a deadly combination. It should be a very popular laptop with the business class who have to travel frequently on meetings.
