What new thing can you write about the Beatles? That they rose to the status of Gods? That their music has inspired almost all contemporary rock-bands and artists? That they have immortalized themselves and that their music reaches out from their era, conquering all times and ages?
There is only one response to the word ‘BEATLES’: Absolute Reverence.
THE BEATLES were a British Rock Band. In fact, they were THE British rock-band and one could mark the pages of history as ‘Before Beatles’ and ‘After Beatles’!
Maybe they knew it, maybe they didn’t but when they officially formed in 1960, they had just created the beginnings of a revolution: BEATLEMANIA.
The Beatles consisted of Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, John Lennon and George Harrison. Their debut album was ‘Please, Please me’ in 1963 and their last one was ‘Abbey Road’ in 1969. But it was their first single ‘Love Me Do’, 1962, that got them mainstream success in UK. A small proof of their immense genius is the 7 Grammys to their credit, apart from countless other awards and recognitions.
Many people would disagree with the whole concept of Beatlemania. How, they would ask, can millions be crazy over one Band, over one set of songs? But opinions are always divided. The only difference here is that there are millions and millions of opinions that say only one thing: LOVE THE BEATLES!
Some of their best and most acclaimed albums are: ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’, ‘Rubber Soul’, ‘Revolver’, etc.
Some of their all-time best songs are:
Hey Jude
Thought to be written for Julian Lennon when John Lennon and she were getting divorced, this is one of the most touching, beautiful songs ever.
Eleanor Rigby
This song gave The Beatles one of their first impressions as a more serious, experimental Band, evolving from their pop-Live performance image. It’s a song that can send chills up your spine, sad and beautiful, speaking of the isolated, lonely lives people lead.
Penny Lane
This song has its name from the Hometown of The Beatles, Liverpool. Penny Lane is a lane in Liverpool where they used to meet and from where they used to take buses to the city. It’s a very catchy song with easy lyrics and it succeeds in amusing you.
A Hard Day’s Night
This song is about the singer’s deep love and devotion to the woman he loves and how, no matter how hard and tiring the day has been, once he’s back home with her, everything feels alright and that makes it worth it. ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ won the Beatles a Grammy. The album “A Hard Day’s Night’ is the soundtrack to the film of the same name.
In My Life
The tune and music is gets to you immediately, as does the theme. This song talks about how places have meanings and memories attached to them, as do people, dead and alive and how the singer loves this one person more than anything else.
Let It Be
The name says it all: take things easy, don’t worry so much, you’ll find a way out. It’s the type of song one would listen too when one is down in the dumps or when one needs inspiration. Even otherwise, it’s a nice song that makes a lot of sense.
The world cannot get the image of the four young boys, tousled hair and cheeky grins, out of their heads while listening to their music. The Beatles broke up after 1970; John Lennon was killed in 1980 and George Harrison died in 2001 but the Beatles and their music will live on forever.
