Sunburns are a very common condition which probably everyone has had to suffer from some time at a other.. Sunburns occur when living tissue of a human body gets burnt due to exposure from ultra-violet rays, especially from the Sun. The skin becomes reddish and becomes hot to touch. There is a sharp burning pain accompanied by mild fatigue and dizziness.

The best tip would be to stay out of the reach of the Sun during the hottest hours. While the peak times depends on seasons, it is generally a good idea to stay out of the Sun’s ways between 11 AM and 3 PM. The Sun is at its highest then and the rays are the most powerful. A person can get Sunburn very easily during these times. So, maybe it would be a good idea to stay indoors at that time.
However, for working professionals, staying indoors is definitely not a good option. So, another precaution one can take is to remain covered up. Wearing hats and using umbrellas to combat the heat of the Sun works wonders. Wearing cotton clothing with large sleeves are a very good idea to prevent sun burns
Using sunscreen is also another way to prevent sunburns. However sunscreen which has an SPF of 45+ should be used. Vaseline can also be used to be put on lips. Sunscreen is very useful if one plans to stay out in the Sun too long. However, instructions like re-applying the Sunscreen after the specified time is over, have to be followed.
Regarding the use of sunscreen, another aspect to be followed is proper distribution. People always forget the parts of the body which are hard to reach. However, one must be careful to apply sunscreen to such locations as the backs of knees, elbows, ears and even feet. These parts, like all other body areas, are also susceptible to sun burn.
Another myth is that sunburn only occurs on sunny days. That is completely wrong. Sunburn can occur very easily on cloudy days as clouds do no block the ultra-violet rays of the Sun. So, one should use sunscreen even during cloudy days. People often forget their sunscreen during winter. But sunburns can also occur during winter.
Eyes may also be damaged. So it is best to wear sunglasses to protect one’s eyes. One can increase the skin’s natural ability to withstand the harmful effects of UV radiation by consuming fruits rich in Lycopene and Beta Carotene. Some food which provide carotenoids include watermelon, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, carrotes etc. Regular consumption of such food is very effective for sunburn prevention.
Hence, sunburn is something which can be painful. However, a few simple precautions can easily help in preventing this affliction.
